Carbon Dioxide ExtinguishersCarbon Dioxide Extinguishers are used for class B and C fires. Carbon Dioxide extinguishers contain carbon dioxide, a non-flammable gas, and are highly pressurized. The pressure is so great that it is not uncommon for bits of dry ice to shoot out the nozzle. Many time they don't work correctly on class A fires because they may not be able to displace enough oxygen to complete putting the fire out, causing it to re-ignite.

Wet Chemical Extinguishers Developed for the sole purpose of fighting deep fat cooking fires, the Wet Chemical Fire Extinguisher is a fairly recent innovation. Normal extinguishers will not extinguish a deep fat fire and can cause the hot oil to splash onto the user sometimes causing severe burns, but a wet chemical fire extinguisher does not pose this danger.

AFFF Foam Extinguishers AFFF Foam Extinguisher are explicitly designed for use on Class A (ordinary combustibles) and B (Flammable liquid) fires. Features an easy and effective application using the hose and air aspirating nozzle. Has a unique and notable capability to apply to flammable liquid spills to prevent ignition. Provides exceptional knock down and penetrating ability for use on deep seated Class A fires. Easier clean-up when compared with traditional dry chemical extinguishers.

Water Extinguishers Water Extinguishers put out the the fire by sudden cooling, taking the heat away from the fire.
Water Extinguishers are for Class A fires only – they should not be used on Class B or Class C fires. The discharge stream could spread the flammable liquid in a Class B fire or could create a shock hazard on a Class C fire. The use of a water extinguisher on any other than a Class A fire is very dangerous and sometime life threatening.

Purple K Extinguishers Purple-K is a dry chemical fire suppression agent used in some dry powder fire extinguishers. It is the most effective dry chemical in fighting class B (flammable liquid) fires, and can be used against some energized electrical equipment fires (USA class C fires). It has about 4-5 times more effectiveness against class B fires than carbon dioxide, and more than twice that of sodium bicarbonate. Some fire extinguishers are capable of operation in temperatures down to -54 °C or up to +49 °C. Dry Chemical Powder works by directly inhibiting the chemical chain reaction which forms during a fire. |
