Dry Fire Sprinkler SystemsDry Pipe Sprinkler Systems provide the best protection in spaces where freezing is possible. Typically dry pipe systems are installed in unheated warehouses and attics, outside exposed loading docks and within commercial freezers.
Many people view dry pipe sprinklers as having an advantage over wet pipe systems for protection of collections and other water sensitive areas. This miss perceived benefit is due to a fear that a physically damaged wet pipe system will leak while dry pipe systems will not. In these situations dry pipe systems will not offer any advantage over wet pipe systems. In the case of impact damage, there will only be a mild discharge delay.

Pre-Action Sprinkler SystemsPreaction Fire Sprinkler Systems employ the basic concept of a dry pipe system in that water is not normally contained within the pipes. The difference, however, is that water is held from piping by an electrically operated valve, known as a pre-action valve. Valve operation is controlled by independent flame, heat, or smoke detection.

Deluge Fire Sprinkler Systems Slightly different than the pre-action fire sprinklers is the Deluge Fire Sprinkler Systems, which is basically a pre-action system using non-valved sprinklers. Operation of the fire detection system releases a deluge valve, which in turn produces immediate water flow through all sprinklers in a given area. Deluge systems applications are utilized in specialized industrial situations - aircraft hangers and chemical plants, where suppression is necessary to prevent fire spread.

Foam Fire Sprinkler Systems Foam is mostly produced with water, special detergents and air, but can also be generated in a chemicaly. A system consists generally of a water supply, a tank with foam compound, admixing armature, air and a foaming device. Foam, which is expanded equal or less than 1 to 20 is called heavy foam and mostly used where it is necessary to quickly cover liquid surfaces or similar surfaces. The water contents of this foam is considerably lower and causes less damage to the protected, but not burning materials.

Water Extinguishers Water Extinguishers put out the the fire by sudden cooling, taking the heat away from the fire.
Water Extinguishers are for Class A fires only – they should not be used on Class B or Class C fires. The discharge stream could spread the flammable liquid in a Class B fire or could create a shock hazard on a Class C fire. The use of a water extinguisher on any other than a Class A fire is very dangerous and sometime life threatening.
